What an amazing series, what an amazing Game 7. Washington versus Montreal. The Habs win the game 2-1 on the road and take the series in 7 games. One of the greatest upsets in Hockey / Sports history!
The Washington Capitals, winner of the President’s Trophy for the best record in the NHL. The number 1 team with 121 points and 318 “Goals For”, 7 players with 20 goals or more, the number 1 powerplay in the league. Two of the players in the Top 5 based on Regular Season stats: the great Alexander Ovechkin and the equally talented Nicklas Backstrom.
Their opponents, the Montreal Canadiens – they barely managed to make it to the playoffs. The number 8 team with 88 points and 217 goals for, only 3 players with 20 goals or more. A team that wasn’t able to send a single Canadian to play for Team Canada in the Olympics. But they did manage to send one goalie to the Olympics, and he played very well, albeit for Slovakia.
Tickets went on sale at 10:00 AM today and I picked mine up online as soon as they opened – 3 tickets in the reds. Santana featuring Steve Winwood (Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, Blind Faith) on July 15th at the Bell Centre in Montreal. I wasn’t able to see Winwood and Clapton so this will make up for it. This will be the fourth or fifth time I’ve seen Santana, but first time for Winwood. Going to be a great concert, can’t wait.
The Montreal Canadiens versus the Buffalo Sabres. Montreal, Saturday April 3rd, 7:00 PM at the Bell Centre. Seating: reds, section 110, row W, seats 11 and 12. Attendance: 21,300 fans.
Another boys’ night out. Zad and I scored tickets in the reds which also included free hotdogs (or pizza), fries, and beer. Seating was pretty good, to the left of the Montreal net. Habs didn’t disappoint as Jaroslav Halak registered a second straight shutout in a 3-0 win. This leaves the Habs in 6th place with 86 points. The Boston Bruins are two points behind but they have a game in hand.
The 3 stars: Jaroslav Halak, Dominic Moore, Sergei Kostitsyn. Hope we make the playoffs.
